IDA

SYDNEY

Challenge

WMK was engaged to design a contemporary residential development named ‘IDA’ on a complex and sensitive site in Potts Point around a village of heritage listed-buildings, taking advantage of its prime location and sweeping views to the city and harbour.

Solution

The scheme by WMK features a mix of new and refurbished buildings, as well as retained heritage cottages.

The solution cleverly adapts a 1970’s timber-framed heritage office building into 16 apartments whilst retaining its heritage essence. The building is being underpinned to allow excavation and construction of basement car parking.

The top levels will sit beneath a dramatic pitched roof, while a contemporary new 14-apartment building while lightweight metal-clad balconies will be inserted to the south.

Most of the apartments within the new building will be oriented north onto a large central courtyard that will visually and physically connect all the buildings. Entries to the apartments will be from Brougham Street either directly or from the courtyard.

Outcome

With its elegant design and exceptional location, the developer has received incredible interest since launching onto the market.

IDA will be a unique addition to the inner-city, helping to reinvigorate this pocket of Potts Point.

Media

IDA has been written about in Bookmarc and Urban Developer.
