Challenge
As part of the rebirth of North Sydney due to the planned metro station, the owners of 65 Berry Street wanted to revamp their 1980s building and revitalise the entry experience to appeal to the building’s young tenant demographic.
In addition, the client wanted to define both the commercial entry and retail entries on Berry Street from one another.
WMK was engaged to revitalise the interiors and the façade of the building.
Solution
The lobby features a muted palette with pops of colour throughout. Unused floor space has been transformed by incorporating useful spaces such as a new café and tiered seating. The refresh includes a base build upgrade incorporating lifts, bathrooms, and end-of-trip facilities.
WMK’s exterior design amends the façade and podium along Denison and Berry Streets. By removing the existing canopy, WMK will allow natural light into the lobby and take advantage of the triple height space.
An operable façade will assist with natural ventilation. A triangular motif has been carried from the interiors to the exterior, signalling the commercial entry, while the retail is defined with a window box element.
Outcome
The refreshed lobby interiors have been unveiled and received an excellent response from the client and tenants alike. When the exterior revitalisation is complete, Charter Hall will have a fresh building asset that will appeal to existing and potential new tenants while offering distinct entrances for both the commercial space and the retail tenancies.
