2017 IDEA Awards: three projects shortlisted

The shortlist has been announced for the 2017 Interior Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) Awards. WMK has been shortlisted in three categories: multi-residential, workspaces under 1000sqm, and public space.

“It’s a great achievement for WMK to have two projects from Brisbane shortlisted in this year’s prestigious IDEA Awards. We’re absolutely delighted,” said Brisbane-based Director – Projects, Lindsay Nunes.

The Brisbane office has 127 Creek Street’s end-of-trip facilities and a workspace for a leading software company short listed.

In NSW, The Lincoln has been shortlisted for an IDEA Award. The project is a boutique residential development in Sydney’s prestigious eastern suburbs.

"We were able to create living spaces of thoughtful design that respond to how people live, and enhance the quality of their lives. We were fortunate to have clients who agreed with our emphasis on superior finishes, beauty and function," said Lauren Oneile, Director - Projects.

The IDEA Awards are Australia's largest and most successful independent interior design awards program.

The winners will be announced in November.

Darling Harbour hotel: DA approved

The DA has been approved on the new Darling Harbour hotel on Sussex Street.

With architecture and interiors by WMK, the new hotel will feature an all-day dining restaurant, 145 well-appointed guest rooms, fully-equipped gym, rooftop pool and proposed future garden bar.

WMK won the design competition with a chic, New York inspired design. The architecture reflects its environment, referencing the forms, scale and materials of an adjacent heritage school while activating the Sussex Street and James Lane streetscapes.

Informed by a Manhattan design aesthetic, the interiors draw on the vibrancy of the surrounding neighbourhood to bring an international feel. Rooms feature an array of lifestyle amenities including curved rainfall showers and embedded window day lounges.

“Achieving DA, particularly in less than six months, is a significant accomplishment,” said WMK’s John Andreas, Design Director.

“We have delivered a design that has not only pleased our client and the hotel operator but is also stirring strong interest within the hotel market – all within the City of Sydney’s strict requirements.”

The hotel is being developed by Icon Oceania, a Sydney-based property developer.

Now that the DA has been granted, the tender process is in final stages with construction commencing late 2017 and targeted completion in early 2019.

2017 City2Surf

The WMK Sydney team took part in the 2017 City2Surf on a glorious Autumn day.

More than 80,000 participants took to Sydney's streets for the annual City2Surf – the largest fun run in the world. This year, the event raised more than $4 million for charity.

The course starts by Sydney’s Hyde Park and winds 14 kilometres through Double Bay, Rose Bay, Vaucluse and Dover Heights before the race reaches its final destination – sparkling Bondi Beach.

While the majority of the WMK team crossed the finish line in around two hours, WMK’s star runner was Architectural Lead Todd Read with a stellar time of 1:12:19.

“It was the best way to enjoy a Sunday – a great community event,” said Interior Designer, Troy Andronicos.

As part of its health and wellbeing program, WMK sponsored employees’ entries in this year’s fun run.
