Challenge
WMK took part in an architectural design competition to revitalise the first of five phases of this urban precinct known as 'Park Sydney' by Greenland Golden Horse.
Solution
WMK's competition-winning design draws on the contexts of two diverse neighbourhoods, melding the characteristics of the adjacent medium-rise mixed-use apartments and fine grained terrace housing into a unified design solution.
Pocket parks, an important feature of Alexandria and Erskineville, have been incorporated into the design.
The centre will bring together the community with a vibrant urban marketplace, retail, sun-drenched cafes, and childcare facilities. Stovemakers Lane will create an edgy and active pedestrian connection through the site.
Outcome
The first phase of Park Sydney will transform the north-east corner of a formerly industrial site into an active, leafy, and character-filled mixed-use development comprising circa 320 apartments, 4500sqm of retail and a childcare centre.
