Challenge

The brief was to create the architectural design for a classically contemporary five-star hotel on this prominent site in O'Riordan Street, acting as a strong visual marker to the precinct.

Solution

The scheme provides a 13-storey hotel with 231 rooms that include eight suites. The entry is located to the north, with a dramatic porte-cochere that faces towards three mature Morton Bay Figs.

With interiors by SODA, the two-storey podium houses reception, bar, restaurant, and back-of-house facilities on the ground level with conference and an executive lounge on the second floor. Gym facilities are located on the roof of the podium looking out onto an elegant roof garden.

Outcome

The design strategy has created a luxury hotel offering unique to this rapidly changing part of Sydney. The refined architectural palette reflects its use and sets a new standard for the precinct.
