Challenge
Refurbish the ageing expansive Coconut Beach Rainforest eco-resort, situated within the world heritage-listed Daintree National Park, to cater for international luxury adventure tourism. The approach had to respond to the site vagaries, climatic extremes and eco-sensitivities.
Solution
Cabin accommodation, reception and restaurant-bar buildings, boardwalks and pool area were extensively upgraded, and designed to balance eco-initiatives with climatically robust materials to respect the extreme wet climate, the remote rainforest setting, and also protect the site’s delicate ecology. WMK also directed the strategy for identity, signage and wayfinding.
Outcome
With a $6mil budget, WMK identified the target market and repositioned the resort into a sophisticated, unique eco-tourism resort in line with the market aspirations for Voyages Hotels and Resorts.
