Challenge
Northern Beaches Christian school presented WMK with the challenge of the existing library space – with the brief to design against ambiguous spatial functions, poor storage amenity and a lack of diverse spaces for students to learn and grow.
Solution
The solution involved a complete refurbishment over several stories; with the view of revitalising the building as the new prominent intellectual heart of the school.
New spaces were to evolve to encompass a culture of reading and love of books, while presenting opportunities for learning on display – with books and student artwork featured at core positions.
Outcome
A unique series of connected learning spaces were achieved within the final design, reinforcing self-directed and independent learning practice by students. Students are invited to interact with the interior architecture with long-stay opportunities and interventions – diverse environments are offered to suit each learner and their specific needs. Collaborative areas reinforce the culture of shared learning and transformation at the school.
