Australians have a unique relationship with the outdoors. Experiences are etched in the memory banks of our youngest years and help direct and shape our identity.
Schools are a direct contributor to this framework. The Northern Beaches Christian School in Sydney's Terrey Hills was seeking to facilitate learning through play as an extension of the classroom. In consideration of its future-focussed whole school masterplan, the 3 separate zones of playscapes consist of 5 new play areas within the school grounds that are designed to include waterscapes, sensory spaces, and bespoke equipment while referencing landscapes specific to the Sydney Basin.
These new-world spaces hope to instil more independence and resilience in children, and greater consideration for others and the environment.
