MARIST CATHOLIC COLLEGE

CARLOW ST BUILDING

CHALLENGE

The Marist College Masterplan has been broken down into 5 stages (with Stage 1 being complete) Stage 2A & 2B’s construction had to allow for the school to continue to be operational plus incorporate temporary works prior to the construction of Stages 3 & 4.

SOLUTION

The overarching strategy for the architecture for the stage 2A component is to create a massing that is sensitive to the scale and character of the future surrounding buildings.

Stage 2A of Marist Catholic College sees the realisation of specialist Design and Technology Workshops, GLA's and 2 Science Laboratories over 4 levels with verandahs to the east facade overlooking the main school courtyard. Activated hubs allow for different zones and ways of learning, accommodating the future broader range of students. Construction had to allow the school to continue to be operational and incorporate temporary works before the construction of future works including Stage 2B.

OUTCOME

Contemporary learning strategies complimenting refined architectural works will allow North Shore Catholic Education Precinct to expand and showcase their ethos and community. Activated hubs within Stage2A allow for different zones and ways of learning, accommodating the future broader range of students. Stage 2A and its associated precinct masterplan delivers a strategy for a connected, sustainable and activated environment that assists the school in achieving its academic objectives and accommodates the potential for future opportunities.
