Challenge
Design a new purpose-built warehouse in Sydney's Erskine Park together with an office facility satisfying green requirements, best practice WH&S, and high-security inclusions to manage the distribution of Sony’s consumer electronics products.
Solution
The innovative 20,000sqm warehouse design uses full height precast concrete panelling with articulated detailing, sustainability features including rainwater collection and extensive landscaping. Structural systems were tightly coordinated to incorporate an extremely efficient racking system, and safety measures include dock levellers, truck restraints and traffic lights.
The elegant glass facades of the 600sqm office are heat-protected by deep louvres juxtaposed against the warehouse. The office incorporates a communal dining room, kitchen area and exterior terrace.
Outcome
The DHL Supply Chain building provides a best practice distribution warehouse with increased efficiencies while the adjoining office sets a new standard for DHL. As a mark of the design’s success WMK has now written the corporate accommodations standards for all DHL’s office and warehouse facilities.
