Following WMK’s successful Dance for Life competition win in 2017, the firm was once again eager to get involved to help raise funds for Reach Out, Australia’s leading online youth mental health service.
With limited capacity amongst the team members to learn another routine however, dance steps needed to take a new direction, and so the former Pirouettes and Chasses were swiftly transformed into the 100,000 step challenge. Staff were given 2 weeks to reach the target and asked to donate a $5 participation fee to raise funds. Generous suppliers, Mohawk Carpets, Café Culture, and Own World, also participated by joining in on the lunch-time powerwalks, encouraging more staff to get up and get moving, and walking towards their 100,000 step goal.
It wasn’t long before the leadership ladder became as competitive as the dance floor, as staff monitored their steps via smart phones and fit bit devices, and took to the streets or climbed the internal stairs to build up their steps to claim the ultimate 100,000 step victory.
Through staff, Director contributions and our suppliers, WMK raised over $2000 and presented a cheque to Reach Out at the Dance for Life event on June 15th.
“Health and wellbeing is an integral part of the culture at WMK, and we are always looking for ways to encourage our staff to look after themselves physically and mentally. Our step challenge was an easy way for staff to get active and for us to continue to support a cause that is very close to our hearts.” says WMK’s Health and Wellness Focus Group Leader, Lexi Glaverina.
