It is vital to all of us, yet on a day to day basis, most of us never really consider the implications of not having enough blood until it's desperately needed.
One in three people will require access to blood products during their lives. That's an incredibly high number given only 1 in 30 Australians give blood. A single blood donation, can help at least 3 different patients and contribute to making up to 22 different blood products.
In hearing of this plight, and having a healthy team of eager participants some of whom have previously required additional blood themselves, WMK staff participated in the Red25 Blood Donation Drive to help raise 25% of all blood donations needed in this country.
Coordinating the initiative was architectural graduate in Sydney Sam Champtaloup who says “donating plasma was a cathartic experience for me, a plasma donation takes roughly 40 minutes in the chair and I used that time to relax and unwind from my busy day. Plus you feel great for helping out people in need.”
We are proud to know that through WMK's donation we saved a total of 87 lives.
