Summary purpose of role
- To support the Director – Workplace and Education Strategy to conduct and deliver research based workplace strategy solutions
- To assist with the preparation of workplace and education strategies and innovative concept designs
- To manage department information resources, including identification and selection of sources of information and information vendors
General
- Actively contributes to the success and growth of WMK through exceptional design, client relationships, quality documentation and staff mentoring
- Assist directors in motivating, mentoring and managing WMK design staff to foster a culture of high quality design within WMK and to deliver superior design solutions
- Assist directors and senior designers and perform tasks under their instruction
- Handle tasks independently when required
- Be self-monitoring with your time and the tasks assigned to you and meet agreed deadlines
- Critically analyse your own work to improve accuracy timeliness and quality
- Contribute to Marketing and Business Development activities including the generation of new business through relationship building, professional networks, industry contacts and direct client contact
- Participate in client presentations and staff training
- Develop knowledge of leading edge workplace practices such as Activity Based Working
- Be a vocal member and contribute to design culture within the WMK interiors group
- Participate in industry events to continually develop your industry and design knowledge
- Develop professional skills in your own time and improve your knowledge of the industry
- Participate in and become a key contributor to one of WMK’s Focus Groups
Research
- Manage department information resources, including identification and selection of sources of information and information vendors
- Conduct literature searches as appropriate
- Collect and record data from multiple sources as part of research activity
- Assist with testing and refining appropriate research tools
- Contribute to the analysis and evaluation of research using a range of analytical tools
- Keep accurate records, assist in the preparation of reports and/or publications as appropriate
- Prepare detailed and up-to-date research briefings
Design and Documentation
- Assist with the preparation of workplace and education strategies and innovative concept designs
- Prepare accurate and professionally crafted client presentation visuals
- Assist Strategic Workplace knowledge through design and market awareness
- Have good knowledge of ergonomics to produce effective space planning
- Prepare concept designs and develop design independently and with senior overview
- Prepare hand-drawn sketch plans and details and hand-letter in formal architectural style
- Understand documentation systems and be able to set up and produce a full set of working documents including Schedules and Performance Specifications
- Develop Strategic Workplace knowledge through design and market awareness
- Assist with the preparation of innovative Concept Designs for competition entries and competitive pitches
- Assist and prepare complete visuals of the Concept Design electronically and/or in hard copy format independently or with a team
- Present Concept Designs in-house for review and feedback
- Successfully and clearly present Concept Designs to the client and other stakeholders
- Design Develop the approved Concept Design in electronic CAD format and within project budget and time constraints including for client, building occupier and authorities approvals
- Develop and Maintain an extensive knowledge of Planning Codes, the BCA and relevant Australian Standards
- Prepare Working Drawings, Specifications and Schedules for tender and construction
Technical and Project Management Knowledge
- Assist with workplace strategy projects from beginning to completion
- Observe approaches to client liaison with a view of increasing client relationship responsibilities. Apply competent knowledge of BCA requirements relevant to interiors
- Apply relevant competency in analysing and applying relevant Australian Standards
- Deal directly with clients
- Run & Minute project meetings
- Have and apply competent knowledge of BCA requirements relevant to interiors
- Have and apply competent knowledge of Disabled Access Codes of Australia
- Have competency in analysing and applying relevant Australian Standards
- Understand roles of various consultants, engineers and BCA consultants
- Understand ramifications and legal implications of documentation and written advice
- Have general knowledge of project costings and working within defined budgets
- Prepare project programs including critical dates and milestones
Computer Skills
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD and SketchUp
- Proficiency in Word and Excel
- Proficiency in Adobe programs including InDesign, Illustrator and PhotoShop
- Knowledge of WMK’s computer and network systems
- Become proficient in Microsoft Project
