WMK warmly welcomes Joelle Sarkis, Director - Projects, to its Sydney studio.
With a notable background in education, Joelle has led the delivery of the architectural services for SINSW’s first pilot project for its new high-quality prefabricated classrooms model, as well as numerous complex public and private school projects.
Joelle grew up surrounded by inspirational teachers who instilled a love of learning from a very young age, and a constant preoccupation with schools and learning.
“What drives me is the significant social impact that schools have on the future of communities. The work that teachers do is so important and challenging. The role of the architecture is to support the pedagogy and create opportunities for learning. From interconnected settings to buildings systems and technology, the buildings and landscapes can also be tools for learning."
Environmentally Sustainable Design is integral to Joelle’s approach in creating school environments that also celebrate culture, heritage, and connection to country.
Now with a 20+ year career, she is a well respected leader, andit is through her depth of experience as a specialist architect in education and an educator herself, Joelle’s appointment bolsters WMK's existing capabilities in the education sector.
