WMK has transformed an outdated atrium into a striking, sculptural focal piece.
Travelodge in Sydney’s Phillip Street featured a large, several-storey space featuring a mural in need of an update. Mirvac contacted WMK to devise a concept to transform the space within a very tight budget.
Based around the concept of ‘flight’, the WMK team worked with a sculptor to create abstract birds suspended from the skylight, combined with geometric wall artwork in striking dark tones. To keep within the budget, the team retained elements where possible, such as the planting and stone flooring.
“The birds naturally animate the space and create a sculptural focal point,” said Senior Interior Designer, Caroline Pearce-Borg.
“We managed to work within the budget and the result is a beautiful atrium space and a very happy client,” she added.
