The final design has been released for the new Latrobe GovHub. Situated in the heart of Morwell, in Victoria’s Latrobe Valley, the building is an integral part of the strategic vision to revitalise the region post Hazelwood.

WMK have worked closely with the Victorian Government and Castlerock Property to design a highly considered three storey building that will accommodate 300 government staff and generate a new wave of employment and activity in the local area.

The building design is reminiscent of a bucket wheel excavator, which acknowledges the history of place, and creates an animated form that is static in nature but activated by the community. As part of the design methodology, the material palette and design are intended so that materials could be sourced from within the local region, and any trades required could largely be done by local builders.

The $30 million project will be home to office spaces, shared meeting rooms, a community hub, business incubator zones and a locally-run café, with completion due in late 2020.
