Nestled in a quiet residential street near the cosmopolitan heart of stylish Potts Point stands IDA, a heritage gem which has been stunningly transformed from its nostalgic past into an exquisite contemporary urban oasis.

The boutique development, designed by WMK for IPM, comprises 30 apartments of predominantly 1 & 2 Bedrooms and two 3 Bed penthouses along with basement parking for 25 car spaces accessed off McElhone St.  A mere stroll away a vibrant cosmopolitan community awaits offering lavish eateries, gourmet delis, boutique shopping, and alfresco bars and cafes.

IDA sits on an impressive sandstone ridge perched above McElhone St with its western face boasting panoramic views of Sydney Harbour and its glittering skyline. The sites eastern boundary sits within the diverse urban fabric of Brougham St.

The design cleverly adapts the former 1970s timber-framed heritage building into a village of highly unique buildings centered around a generously landscaped courtyard.  The entire site comprises the 1850’s Telford Lodge, a pair of 1900’s terraces, the 1970’s timber-framed Calidad Office building that has been converted into the new apartments along with a new terraced apartment building to the south to complete the ensemble.

The site had many inherent challenges including the need to excavate a level of basement parking and a new level of apartments into the sandstone ridge below the Calidad building. To achieve this the Calidad was disassembled then refurbished in a warehouse and once the lower levels were completed it was returned to the site and reassembled as an apartment building, all the while ensuring that the conversion didn’t compromise its original architectural integrity. Also, all the additions to the Telford Lodge were removed to be able to reinstate it to its original form and free up space for the new apartment building to the south. This building was designed to act as a backdrop to the heritage structures and to ensure that it sits comfortably within its Potts Point context.
