WMK is thrilled to announce a significant milestone in its journey as the Melbourne office opens its doors in a brand-new and architecturally stunning location at Level 5, 263 William Street, situated above the rejuvenated Metropolitan Hotel. The base build architecture and commercial building were designed and delivered by WMK and this relocation reflects the company's growth and evolution and marks a new chapter in WMK’s history.
The move comes at a time when WMK is also celebrating five successful years in Geelong, further reinforcing the company's commitment and presence in the region and expanding its capacity to offer exceptional services to Geelong and Regional Victoria.
Steve Tillinger, Director Practice in WMK’s Melbourne office says:
"WMK has always viewed Melbourne and Geelong as an emerging twin city, with population growth forecasts, increased government investment, and flourishing transport infrastructure projects supporting this narrative."
WMK has been steadfast in its dedication to designing and delivering projects in Melbourne and Regional Victoria, building deep connections within the communities it serves. The relocation to 263 William Street is a celebration of the collaborative efforts of all involved, from the inception of the project to its realisation, and marks a momentous milestone in the company's journey.
"This move culminates in 263 William Street becoming WMK's new Melbourne home.” says Steve Tillinger.
The newly designed commercial tower rising above 263 William Street sits atop the rejuvenated Metropolitan Hotel. The historic landmark has provided Melbournians with a true pub experience since 1925, and has been meticulously restored to its original condition, preserving decades of heritage.
The tower, with its minimalist and refined design, perfectly complements the modern cityscape while echoing the geometry and proportions of the heritage profile below. With 17 levels wrapped in a structural exoskeleton, the building boasts modest floorplates of 250m², allowing for maximized internal space and enhancing the overall structural integrity.
For Managing Director, Greg Barnett:
"The move of WMK into this new building reflects the growth and evolution of WMK Architects and marks more than 10 years in Melbourne - which being a Melbourne boy originally this is very rewarding." says Greg Barnett.
WMK is confident that this move will empower the team to continue delivering exceptional results for clients while fostering an inspiring and collaborative work environment.
It’s a very bright future in Melbourne and Geelong.
