During May, WMK Director John Andreas presented at an Association for Learning Environments event at Northern Beaches Christian School (NBCS).

The Association for Learning Environments is a worldwide organisation sharing knowledge, experiences and best practices in planning, designing and building great learning environments.

The event was an opportunity to introduce professionals involved in the education field to the spectacular new facility at NBCS, designed by WMK.

Principal Stephen Harris spoke about the school and its unique teaching methods. John Andreas followed, presenting WMK’s design for the school, taking the audience on a journey from the brief through to realisation.

The design by WMK comprises a sequence of multi-level pavilion buildings sitting beneath a spectacular 3,000sqm intelligent ‘living’ canopy which generates energy, harvests rainwater, and cools the spaces below. No longer sitting at desks in classrooms, students learn in interactive indoor/outdoor spaces enabled with wireless technology.

“NBCS is truly unique,” said John. “The visiting group was impressed and amazed with the school.”

“It was a fantastic for these educators and built environment professionals to gain an introduction into the school, and to demonstrate the thinking and the strategies behind it,” he added.
