WMK was engaged by SmartClinics, a Queensland-based group of family medical centres, to design three clinics in Brisbane, including a flagship clinic in Carseldine.
SmartClinics aims to provide convenient medical care in fit-outs that break the typical doctors’ surgery mould.
The brief was to transform the medical centres into welcoming, homely environments, similar to hotel lounges – all within a limited budget.
To create warmth, WMK chose neutral and earthy tones, complemented with pops of colour in soft furnishings and branding.
The spaces offer a variety of seating for patients – private cocoons for individuals through to banquettes and kids play spaces for families with young children.
Backlit branded screens play with light and shadow to create impact, while greenery is used throughout to soften the clinic and clean the air.
The design of treatment and consult rooms was informed by rigorous research to optimise staff efficiency and patient comfort.
WMK has created spaces for SmartClinics that break the typical doctors’ surgery mould – managing to deliver a crisp and clean space that is still warm and inviting.
The team has received excellent feedback from the client – both staff and patients are enjoying the inviting spaces and the new look and feel.
