600 Elizabeth Street

Melbourne

Challenge

The brief was to incorporate the existing heritage fabric on site and develop commercial office space above, that was cognisant of the areas eclectic mix of architectural expressions and heritage overlays.

Solution

WMK developed an articulated tower form that was sensitive to both the sites and neighbouring heritage fabric. The use of bold lines and angular form are a modern interpretation of the Interwar style architecture that was to be retained.

The ground floor hosts a grand office lobby, with a number of retail offerings accessed via an internal laneway that engages directly with the heritage buildings ensuring that their integration into the design was seamless.

The office tower above offers over 15,000m² of leasable area over 10 levels and world class end of trip facilities in the basement.

Outcome

The development that has successfully integrated the existing heritage buildings while providing modern retail and office amenities and aims to achieve a green star rating for the new office component.
