Challenge

To develop a master plan, architectural and interior concepts for a luxury resort development located on a spectacular 120 hectare site backing on National Park in the Whitsundays region of the Central Queensland coast.

Incorporating input from the preferred hotel operator, and with discerning international travellers in mind,

the brief was for a boutique eco-resort which offers a unique hospitality and lifestyle experience not only in the North Queensland market but on the international stage.

Solution

Working with an existing preliminary master plan, WMK developed an entirely new strategy for the site, reducing the overall number of guest rooms and redistributing these to suit the more boutique scale of the development.

WMK then developed architectural and interior concepts for the villa suites including a luxurious palette of natural materials and architectural detailing which maximises unspoiled views of the site, national park and coastline beyond.

In addition, the reception and restaurant buildings were replanned, a new resort-style day spa incorporated and a spectacular wedding and conferencing pavilion designed to be a centrepiece of the development, floating on the edge of a lake in the centre of the site.

Outcome

As a result of the master planning and design concepts prepared by WMK, the development is now a genuine investment proposition with international appeal, and has already garnered interest from a number of international investors and developers.

Once completed, this six star eco-resort will become a unique, bespoke lifestyle destination for local and international travellers and will undoubtedly set a new benchmark for resort properties in Australia.
